President Droupadi Murmu had expressed displeasure over the absence of Mamata Banerjee and her cabinet ministers during her visit.
Amid the controversy over alleged ‘insult’ meted out to President Droupadi Murmu by the state government during her recent visit to West Bengal, the President’s office reportedly turned down request for an appointed by Trinamool Congress (TMC) MPs.
According to a report by news agency PTI, a source said TMC Parliamentarians had sought an appointment with President Droupadi Murmu to apprise her about the West Bengal government’s welfare initiatives but the Rashtrapati Bhavan turned down their request citing “paucity of time”.
A senior leader of the Mamata Banerjee-led party had to President Murmu on March 9, seeking an appointment on behalf of a 12-to-15-member party delegation comprising MPs and state ministers, to share with the President, the welfare initiatives taken by the West Bengal government for “inclusive development of all sections of society”, the report said, citing a source familiar with the matter.
