Kerala assembly elections 2026: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Sunday released the candidates’ list for the upcoming Kerala assembly elections. The State will go to the polls in a single phase on April 9, 2026, with vote counting scheduled for May 4, 2026.
While addressing a press conference, the party’s state secretary, M V Govindan, said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and nine fellow cabinet members will contest in the high-stakes polls. While the Kerala CM will seek his mandate from his sitting seat, Dharmadam in northern Kannur district, former health minister K K Shailaja will contest from the Peravoor constituency.
The CPI(M) has renominated 56 sitting MLAs among the 81 seats it is contesting, including six independents. This is unusual for a party seeking public mandate for a third time. The number of women candidates in the list stands at 10. Meanwhile, the list comprises a mix of sitting legislators, senior party leaders, and multiple new faces. Notably, candidates for six constituencies, including Ernakulam and Palakkad, will be announced later.
