Amid hotels and restaurants’ closure over growing concerns of fuel availability, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas on Thursday announced that the Centre will release some commercial LPG cylinders. For this, state governments have been asked to identify the list of beneficiaries so that the liquid petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders can be delivered on a priority basis.
The oil ministry added that 40,000 kilolitres of extra kerosene have also been allocated to states as an alternative to LPG. During an inter-ministerial briefing, Sujata Sharma, joint secretary of MoPNG, said that almost 50 lakh cylinders are delivered per day, and no shortage has been reported on the “distribution side.”
“But there is a manifold increase in bookings because of the panic. We urge the citizens to avoid panic booking…State governments have been requested to identify the list of beneficiaries so that the delivery of the cylinder, commercial cylinder, can be made on a priority basis,” Sujata Sharma said.
