The ongoing war in West Asia has created a serious challenge for global energy supplies. Several commercial ships carrying oil and gas are currently stranded near the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important shipping routes. Reports suggest that the Indian government is now considering sending warships to escort Indian vessels safely through the region.
The situation has developed after Iran reportedly restricted movement through the strategic waterway following attacks by the United States and Israel on February 28. The war has now entered its 11th day.
According to reports, around 38 Indian-flagged commercial ships with more than 1,100 sailors are currently stranded in the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. Many of these ships are oil and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tankers that are unable to cross the Strait of Hormuz due to security concerns and fears of being caught in military action.
