NHPC has issued tenders for Sawalkot Hydroelectric Project on Chenab River, one of the biggest projects after Indus Water Treaty suspension.
Indus Water Treaty: In yet another significant move to boost the utilization of India’s water resources post suspension of the Indus Water Treaty (IWT), the Narendra Modi government has approved a major hydropower project on the Chenab River in Jammu and Kashmir.
According to reports, the state-owned National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC), has invited tenders for the construction of the Sawalkot Hydroelectric Project in Ramban district, which will built at an estimated cost Rs 5,129 crore on the Chenab River.
As per details outlined in the tender document, the entire project will be completed under a single package which includes construction divergent tunnel, Adit, DT, and coffer dam. The tender package also includes construction of the Mandia Nullah DT, Right Bank Spiral Tunnel, access tunnels, associated roads, as well as all dam-related related ancillary work.
