Mysuru DC stresses precautionary measures to reduce road accidents, urging officials to identify and address high-risk areas.
Mysuru Deputy Commissioner G. Lakshmikant Reddy has emphasised the need for precautionary measures to prevent road accidents, stating that they are killing and maiming many people.
Chairing the Road Safety Committee meeting held at the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Mysuru on Tuesday, Mr. Reddy directed officials to identify accident-prone black spots and take the necessary steps to prevent mishaps. “Unscientific road humps should be removed. Locations with frequent accidents must be identified,” he said while asking officials to submit the estimates for the work within 15 days.
In places where approvals have already been granted, the work must be completed within 30 days, he said.
“Necessary work should be taken up on roads that have sharp curves. Signboards must be installed at such turns, and scientifically designed speed breakers should be provided wherever necessary. Humps should not be installed on highways,” he said.
He advised the officials to come up with scientific measures in all the accident-prone zones, prepare estimates for the same and implement them after obtaining the necessary approvals. “Overall, all necessary steps must be taken to minimise accidents,” he added.
“Every life is precious. If roads are designed scientifically and appropriate safety measures are implemented, accidents can be reduced,” he said while advising motorists to follow traffic rules. Two-wheeler riders must wear helmets, and four-wheeler drivers must compulsorily wear seat belts, he said.
