Collector calls for united fight against TB

District Collector urges collective action against TB during World TB Day rally, highlighting screening efforts and patient support initiatives.
District Collector M.N. Harendhira Prasad has called for collective efforts to eradicate TB. He flagged off an awareness rally at the Collectorate on the occasion of World TB Day on Tuesday.
Addressing the gathering, the Collector said that 69,495 screening tests were conducted in Visakhapatnam district in 2025, and of them 4,957 positive cases were identified. The patients were given medication. The use of medication for six months as per schedule helps in quick recovery of patients.
Mr. Harendhira Prasad explained under the ‘TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’ vulnerable persons like smokers, diabetics, alcohol addicts, persons over 60 years of age, previous TB patients, their contacts and those with BMI less than 18, were being tested. TB patients are being given nutrition biscuits and kits through OSR funds. He commended NALCO and Central Warehousing Corporation for their assistance in providing nutrition food and biscuits, costing ₹50 lakh, for 8,205 patients in 2025.
The rally concluded in an awareness meeting at the Zilla Parishad meeting hall.
District Medical and Health Officer P. Jagadiswara Rao called for united action to end TB. He directed the medical and health staff to ensure prompt delivery of medicines to those who test positive for TB.
Zilla Parishad CEO P. Narayana Murthy said that those suffering with persistent cough, blood in phlegm, and weight loss should get themselves tested without delay.
