Two injured spotted deer are receiving care at Coimbatore's Wildlife Transit and Treatment Centre after being rescued from Mettupalayam Forest.
Two injured spotted deer from the Mettupalayam Forest Range in the Coimbatore Forest Division are undergoing treatment at the Wildlife Transit and Treatment Centre at Pethikuttai.
According to Forest Department officials, on March 16, 2026, a two-year-old female spotted deer was rescued from the Mettupalayam Forest Range with an injury to its hind leg after getting entangled in a PVC pipe. The animal was shifted to the facility, where veterinary doctors provided treatment, and it has since been placed in a designated enclosure for herbivores under continuous monitoring.
In a similar instance, on March 20, a four-year-old female spotted deer with an injury to its foreleg was brought to the centre from the same forest range. The deer received initial treatment and has been kept under observation in a separate enclosure meant for herbivores.
Forest Department sources said both animals are under regular monitoring and are receiving care as per veterinary advice.
The Wildlife Transit and Treatment Centre, set up at a cost of ₹19.50 crore at Pethikuttai in the Sirumugai Forest Range, was inaugurated in December 2025 by Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin. The facility is intended to provide specialised care for rescued wild animals in the region and is the first such centre in the State.
