The vehicle towing drive will soon resume in the city to ease traffic congestion. The Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP), in coordination with the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA), is set to relaunch the vehicle towing drive across the city shortly to tackle traffic congestion and illegal parking.
City Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh said that all five traffic divisions are preparing to roll out the drive, with necessary towing vehicles being arranged. “Permission has been granted, and the drive will begin soon,” he said.
The decision follows a surge in public complaints over indiscriminate parking and abandoned vehicles causing major traffic bottlenecks in several parts of the city.
Officials noted that towing operations had previously been suspended after public outrage over alleged misconduct by towing personnel. However, in the absence of enforcement, motorists began parking vehicles haphazardly, further worsening congestion.
Authorities also observed that several old and unused vehicles were being left parked on roads for extended periods, adding to the problem. Senior officials had earlier indicated that towing operations would resume, and following these directions, the system is now being reintroduced.
As part of the initiative, towing vehicles will be deployed across five traffic divisions. Each team will include a police inspector, a constable, and GBA staff to assist in the operation.

The High Court of Karnataka on Tuesday ordered the issue of a notice to the State government on a PIL petition, which had complained about disturbances caused to people residing in the localities around the National Public School situated in Rajajinagar 5th block due to use of loudspeakers with high volume in the school and parking of school buses in residential areas.
