More than six years after the State government launched the ₹ 821.97 crore (revised cost) Jalasiri project to augment drinking water supply infrastructure in the city, it has achieved 63 % physical progress and 59.61 % financial progress, according to Karnataka Urban Infrastructure Development and Finance Corporation (KUIDFC) which is implementing the project for Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC).
An official progress report of the project released after Dinesh Gundu Rao, Minister in-charge of Dakshina Kannada performed the annual customary Ganga Pooja to the Netravathi at Thumbe vented dam on Wednesday, said that 44.64 k.m. of 52.57 k.m. long clear water transmission line (CWTM) or main pipeline has been laid under the project.
According to the report, 868.84 k.m. of the 1,155.36 k.m.-long water distribution network pipelines have been laid.
Of 96,300 houses to be provided with water connection, 37,025 connections were given, the report said.
Of 19 over head tanks (OHTs) to be built, three tanks were commissioned, civil works of 14 OHTs have been completed, civil works of a OHT is under progress and works to build an OHT is yet to be taken up due to land related problems, the report said.
Of five ground level service reservoirs (GLSRs) to be constructed, a GLSR is ready and mechanical works of four GLSRs are under progress after completing their civil works, it said.

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inaugurated the aquarium created at a cost of ₹5 crore near District Science Centre at Kokkirakulam in Tirunelveli on Wednesday through videoconference. Following the announcement made in Tamil Nadu Budget for 2022 – 2023, this aquarium with 150 ornamental fishes and a sales outlet has been established to attract a large number of visitors, especially children. The visitors will be allowed from March 13.
