Coimbatore Corporation plans five women-exclusive pink parks to promote health, fitness, and social interaction at ₹3.75 crore.
The Coimbatore Corporation has proposed the establishment of five exclusive pink parks for women across the city at a total estimated cost of ₹3.75 crore, in addition to the two pink parks under construction at Ward 40 in Vadavalli and Ward 94 in Sundarapuram.
According to officials, the pink parks are being designed to enable women to undertake walking, yoga, exercise, sports and leisure activities in a dedicated space. The initiative aims to facilitate social interaction, reduce stress and encourage a healthy lifestyle.
“Nearly 50% of the works have been completed at the two parks under construction. Each park is being developed at an estimated cost of ₹83 lakh. Open-concept gym equipment and children’s play equipment will be installed shortly. The facilities will include a feeding room, a small amphitheatre and walking tracks,” an official said.
The five new parks have been proposed at Sowdeswari Colony (Ward 77, South Zone), Lakshmi Nagar (Ward 17, West Zone), Kalloori Nagar (Ward 52, East Zone), Sengadu (Ward 49, Central Zone) and Viswasapuram (Ward 4, North Zone).
Each of the five pink parks is estimated to be developed at a cost of ₹75 lakh. The Corporation will take up the works after mobilising funds through government allocations and private contributions.
Corporation Commissioner M. Sivaguru Prabakaran said that works on the two pink parks were initiated last year and that, with the addition of the proposed five parks, the total number of such facilities will rise to seven. He added that four special parks for children, including facilities for differently abled children, are also being planned at a total estimated cost of ₹4 crore.
