FERA members arrested in Ramanathapuram for blocking road
Police arrested 222 members of the Federation of Revenue Associations (FERA) here on Wednesday who engaged in a road blockade emphasising their demands.
Members of FERA have been staging an indefinite strike and waiting protest since February 25, emphasising on their nine-point charter of demands.
The demands, include enhanced pay for all revenue department officials, cancellation of the 10% contribution deduction under the announced New Pension Scheme, a Job Protection Act, and restoring the quota for compassionate ground appointments back to 25%.
In this situation, on Wednesday, members of the FERA—comprising the Revenue Officials’ Association, Village Administrative Officers’ Association, and Land Survey Department Officials’ Association—staged a road blockade in front of the Ramanathapuram Collectorate.
The Kenikarai police arrested 222 people who participated in the protest.
Due to the continuous strike for the past eight days, revenue offices including the Collector’s Office, Revenue Divisional Office, and Tehsildar Offices wore a deserted look and most offices remained locked.
