In commemoration of May Day, various trade unions organised a rally and a public meeting in Thoothukudi on Thursday. CITU district president R. Pechimuthu and AITUC district president E. Krishnaraj led the rally that started at Anna statue near Market Junction.

CITU district president R. Pechimuthu and AITUC district president E. Krishnaraj led the rally that started at Anna statue near Market Junction. The rally proceeded through Palayamkottai Road, Ambedkar Statue Junction and concluded near Chamarajanagar bus stop.
Ahead of the May Day celebration, a public meeting was held in the city, in which CITU State vice-president R. Singaravelu, AITUC State secretary S. Thillaivanam, representatives of other trade unions and a large number of workers participated.

The High Court of Karnataka on Tuesday ordered the issue of a notice to the State government on a PIL petition, which had complained about disturbances caused to people residing in the localities around the National Public School situated in Rajajinagar 5th block due to use of loudspeakers with high volume in the school and parking of school buses in residential areas.
