
Heavy vehicles banned on Agumbe Ghat

Udupi district bans heavy vehicles on Agumbe Ghat from June 15 to September 30 due to monsoon landslip risks.
The Udupi district administration on Friday, June 13, banned movement of heavy vehicles on the Agumbe Ghat on Malpe-Tirthahalli National Highway 169A from June 15 to September 30 during the Monsoon.
Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate K. Vidyakumari in her order said there were possibilities of land slips owing to heavy rain coupled with movement of heavy vehicles. As such, only light motor vehicles would be permitted to ply through the Ghat during the period, she said.
Heavy vehicles plying between Udupi/ Karkala and Tirthahalli may take the Kundapura-Siddapura-Masthikatte-Tirthahalli route, she said.

The High Court of Karnataka on Tuesday ordered the issue of a notice to the State government on a PIL petition, which had complained about disturbances caused to people residing in the localities around the National Public School situated in Rajajinagar 5th block due to use of loudspeakers with high volume in the school and parking of school buses in residential areas.
