Gram Sabha meetings held as part of May Day celebrations

Gram Sabha meetings in Tirunelveli district focus on sanitation, education, and village development with active community participation.
Gram Sabha meetings were organised in all 204 village panchayats of Tirunelveli district on Thursday as part of May Day celebrations.
Collector R. Sukumar, who participated in the meeting held at Kooniyoor under Cheranmahadevi panchayat union, said the villagers should make sure that there was no open defecation in their village, which should ensure toilet in every house. Moreover, they should create a rainwater harvesting structure in every house.
The Collector urged the parents to admit their children in schools in the upcoming academic year and they should ensure that there was no dropout in any family.
In Tenkasi, Collector A.K. Kamal Kishore participated in the meeting held at Ilaththur in Shencottai taluk even as similar meetings were organised in all 221 village panchayats in the district.
After receiving petitions from the public, he said the villagers should make use of the gram sabha meetings to understand the functioning of the village panchayats, their revenue and expenditure, projects implemented so far and the new schemes in the pipeline and submit their suggestions on the new development works to be executed in the village for the benefit of residents.
The Collector explained online procedures for plot approval, building plan approval and payment of taxes etc. to the participants.
Assistant Director of Village Panchayats Anita, District Health Officer Govindan and district panchayat secretary Sumathi participated in the gram sabha meeting.
