YSRCP leader Ambati Rambabu arrested for police obstruction; wife petitions High Court alleging illegal detention and safety failures.
YSRCP leader and former Minister Ambati Rambabu was arrested on Saturday night on the charges of violating the law by creating hurdles for the police while they were discharging their duties. He was shifted to Nallapadu police station.
The police lodged two FIRs on Mr. Rambabu, including one for creating trouble for the on-duty police personnel and the second one for criticising Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu and allegedly using provocative language to create law and order issue by encouraging group clashes.
Guntur SP Vakul Jindal told The Hindu that Mr. Ambati pushed a Police SI while he was discharging duties. He added that the accused was taken into custody based on two allegations.
On the other hand, Vijayalakshmi, wife of Mr. Rambabu, filed a house motion petition in the High Court alleging illegal detention and failure of the police to provide protection.
In her petition, she claimed that the police had unlawfully confined her along with around 60 others, despite there being no legal grounds for such action.
Ms. Vijayalakshmi contended that the police had failed in their duty to ensure her safety and maintain law and order, leading to a serious threat to her personal security.
