SHG members in Kanniyakumari use snakes and ladders to raise election awareness and boost voter turnout.
In an innovative initiative, members of Women Self Help Groups played a game of snakes and ladders at the Kanniyakumari Collectorate premises as part of an election awareness campaign.
Several measures have been undertaken to create awareness of elections and to increase voter turnout. To make the campaign more engaging, the SHG members participated in the traditional game on a large board with election-related messages and information.
The campaign, organised by District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) in partnership with SHGs, focused on improving voter participation in the district. The game board consisted of 36 squares and included election awareness quotes, pictures and key messages highlighting the importance of voting.
Each move in the game was designed to convey a message, helping the participants to easily understand the dos and dont’s of the electoral process.
The initiative was part of the ongoing efforts to strengthen democratic participation and ensure maximum voter turnout in the upcoming elections.

The draft policy for “Responsible Digital Use Among Students”, released on Monday by the Department of Health and Family Welfare, has recommended that parents set structured routines with clear screen-time rules and prioritise privacy, safety, and open conversation with children on digital well-being.
