Lt. Governor inaugurates Uppanaru Canal Bridge construction with Chief Minister, aiming to ease traffic congestion in Puducherry.
Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan on Thursday inaugurated the work for completing the construction of the Uppanar Canal Bridge.
The Lt. Governor was accompanied by Chief Minister N. Rangasamy for the ‘bhoomi pooja’ of the project which was revived last year.
The road over bridge (ROB), originally conceived in 2005-06, to connect the busy arterial stretches of Kamaraj Salai and Maraimalai Adigal Salai, was hanging fire for several years due to various reasons, including administrative lapses, arbitration and lack of funds. Once completed, the ROB would serve as a vital link between Kamaraj Salai and Maraimalai Adigal Salai and ease traffic congestion on both arterial roads.
Speaker R. Selvam, Public Works Minister K. Lakshminarayanan, G. Nehru, MLA, Chief Secretary Sharat Chauhan, A. Muthamma, Public Works Secretary, D. Manikandan, Secretary to Lt. Governor, A. Kulothungan, District Collector and M.Dhinadhayalan, PWD Chief Engineer were also present.
