The water level in Mullaperiyar dam stood at 121.80 feet (maximum permissible level 142 ft.) with an inflow of 1,665 cusecs and a discharge of 1,200 cusecs. The level in Vaigai dam was 49.54 feet (71 ft.) with an inflow of 915 cusecs and a discharge of 69 cusecs. Combined storage in Periyar credit was 4,033 mcft. Mullaperiyar dam recorded 26.6 mm of rainfall during the last 24 hours ending at 6 a.m. on Wednesday.
While residents are worried over deaths due to diarrhoea in Vijayawada, officials still grapple to find the root cause. Contaminated drinking water supplied by VMC officials is the reason, insist people in the affected areas, but officials insist that efforts are on to identify the disease and that those with symptoms other than diarrhoea too are visiting the health camps.
