Water Board reviews summer action plan for Hyderabad; focus on drinking water, tankers, desilting and harvest pits

Apart from preparing action plans to complete any sanctioned drinking water and sewerage works by March 31, these officials are also tasked with supervision for construction of 18,000 rainwater harvesting pits in the Outer Ring Road limits over the next 90 days.

Reviewing the plans on Tuesday, board managing director K. Ashok Reddy said all residential premises of 200 square yards and larger require a RWH pit and for premises over 300 square yards, it is mandatory. Mr. Reddy also said that changes in the Revenue regulations are being proposed for amendment so that an RWH pit would be made mandatory for sanction of all new connections.

Stressing that uninterrupted water tanker supply is the season’s priority, he said officials should assess demand trends in their jurisdictions and set up additional filling stations and points where needed. Additional tankers would be procured if required, and officials were directed to strictly adhere to the norm of delivering water tankers within 24 hours of booking.

Desilting of sewer lines and manholes by the end of May will also be a priority, he said. Mr. Reddy stressed that officials must ensure prompt removal of waste generated during desilting works. He also ordered that all road restoration works must be completed by the last week of April to avoid public inconvenience ahead of the monsoon.
