Thangachimadam Government Higher Secondary School seeks appointment of Physical Education Teacher to enhance students' sports talent and skills.
School Management Committee members and students of Thangachimadam Government Higher Secondary School here on Monday submitted a petition to Collector Simranjeet Singh Kahlon to appoint a Physical Education Teacher to the school.
Saranya of the SMC said that as there was no physical education teacher (PET) in the school, students could not be benefitted.
“When a PET is present in the school, the students could be streamlined through sports or any other physical activities involving concentration and coordination,” she added.
Not just discipline, but the hidden sports talent among the students could not be identified. Only in the presence of a PET, students could be made to explore various sports, from which they could be handpicked to excel in a particular sport, she noted.
Even when the students from the rural areas were interested in sports, they could not enhance their talent due to the unavailability of training and a mentor, Ms. Saranya said.
A student of Standard 8 said that for the past three years they did not have a PET due to which they hardly got any physical education periods.
“As we are only into subjects and classes, we could not learn any sports from the school. Since, we cannot afford training from private coaches, we need a sports teacher,” the student added.
