Swarna Bharathi Indoor Stadium re-opens with modernised facilities in Vizag
One of the most sought-after sports venues in Visakhapatnam– Swarna Bharathi Indoor Stadium, re-opened at Resapuvanipalem on Tuesday after undergoing a complete a ₹16.90 crore renovation funded under the Smart City Corporation funds, by Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC).
MP M. Sribharat, mayor Peela Srinivasa Rao, District Collector M.N. Harendhira Prasad, North MLA P Vishnu Kumar Raju along with GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg inaugurated the stadium.
Speaking during the inaugural programme, Mr. Sribharat said that the Swarna Bharati Indoor Stadium is now equipped with six badminton courts, G.I. sheet roofing, wooden sports flooring, epoxy flooring, internal acoustic wall cladding, glass panelling, ACP elevation cladding, false ceiling, and folding chairs with a seating capacity of 1,750 spectators. He further said that additional development works include BT road development around the stadium, line marking, painting, lighting, air-conditioning, sports hall lighting, fire safety systems, and CCTV surveillance, among other facilities.
“Online booking system is being introduced to ensure easy public access to the stadium,”, he said, and urged the GVMC chief to ensure effective management of the stadium by promoting sports activities, generating revenue, and maintaining accessibility for all.
Mr. Ketan Garg the GVMC Commissioner said that the Swarna Bharati Indoor Stadium has been upgraded to cater to the needs of National and International sports events.
GVMC Additional Commissioner P. Nallanayya, Chief Engineer P. V. Satyanarayana Raju and others were present.

Mangaluru City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy said here on Tuesday that the police will consider booking those causing death by drink and drive, and by allowing minors to drive, for the offence of culpable homicide (not amounting to murder). They are also contemplating barricading highway medians across the commissionerate to dissuade pedestrians from jaywalking, he said.
