Students picked up for bid to protest in front of Sivakasi college
Scores of students of a private college near Sivakasi laid siege to the office of Deputy Superintendent of Police, Srivilliputtur, demanding action against the college principal in connection with suicide of one of the girl students, on Tuesday.
While the girl had ended her life at her house in Sivakasi, the students charged that the action of the principal on the girl had forced her to take extreme step. They had staged a protest on January 23.
However, police then had pacified them. Again on Tuesday, when a group of students gathered in front of the college, under Malli police station limits, demanding action against the principal, they were picked up by the police.
Among them were Students Federation of India district president, Anandakannan and another functionary, Bharati.
The police took them to Srivilliputtur Town police.
Alleging that the police had roughed up the protesters, scores of college students went to the DSP office.
