The State continued to receive heavy rains during the current monsoon with 17 districts reporting rainfall in “large excess”. Thirteen districts received excess rainfall and three – Mancherial, Nagarkurnool and Peddapalli — reported normal rainfall so far during the present season. Hyderabad, its surrounding districts, Nizamabad, Rajanna Sircilla, Yadadri Bhongir, Karimnagar, Kamareddy, Mahabubabad, Jogulamba Gadwal and Nalgonda are among the districts which reported large excess rainfall during the current season. Siddipet (128% deviation) and Yadadri-Bhongir (102%) reported rainfall in excess of 100% while Medchal-Malkajgiri (93%) and Warangal Urban (92%) too received heavy rainfall during the past fortnight. According to Telangana State Development Planning Society, southwest monsoon arrived in the State on June 5 a week ahead of the schedule. The monsoon covered the entire State by June 10 with rainfall being reported from most parts of the State.
The Union and State governments provided support in several ways to the needy people, but private institutions should also extend help, especially to those requiring medical assistance, said C.P. Rajkumar, Managing Director, Nalam Multispeciality Hospital, here on Saturday. Speaking at a function to honour Inspector General of Police V. Balakrishnan and neurologist S. Meenakshisundaram with C. Palaniappan Memorial Award for their contribution to society and Nalam Kappom medical adoption of Type-1 diabetic children, he said the governments implemented numerous welfare programmes, but the timely help by a private hospital or a doctor in the neighbourhood to the people in need would go a long way in safeguarding their lives.
