Silent procession taken out to pay homage to Nallakannu
Cadres from various political parties except the AIADMK and the BJP jointly took out a silent procession here on Thursday to pay homage to veteran Communist leader R. Nallakannu, 101, who passed away in Chennai on Wednesday.
Led by CPI’s district secretary P. Karumban, the processionists took out the silent rally from Rajaji Park up to Anna Bus-Stand where the participants offered floral tribute to the portrait of the legendary leader from Thoothukudi district.
In his native place of Srivaikundam, the public also took out a silent rally. All shops in Srivaikundam remained closed after 2 p.m. on Thursday as a mark of respect to the departed leader.
In Tirunelveli, Annai Teresa Public Welfare Trust organised an event in Tirunelveli Town to pay homage to Nallakannu, in which representatives of all political parties except BJP participated and offered floral tributes.

The draft policy for “Responsible Digital Use Among Students”, released on Monday by the Department of Health and Family Welfare, has recommended that parents set structured routines with clear screen-time rules and prioritise privacy, safety, and open conversation with children on digital well-being.
