Udupi-Chikkamagaluru Lok Sabha member Kota Srinivasa Poojary of the BJP defended the VB-G RAM G Act, stating that the new act will help rural people more than MGNREGA.
Speaking about the new act at a programme organised by the Shivamogga district unit of the BJP, Mr. Poojary alleged that the Congress party had been misleading the public on the new act by spreading false information. The previous act guaranteed only 100 days of work, while the new act increased it to 125 days annually.
“Earlier, the job cardholders used to get wages once every two weeks. The new act will ensure that payment is credited to their account once a week. The wage has also been increased substantially. While the wage was only ₹174 a day during the UPA rule, it now stands at ₹370. The total allocation of funds for the scheme has also gone up substantially,” he stated.
Further, he also defended the 60-day pause in the scheme. “During peak agricultural activities, the job card holders will not get work. This measure was introduced because of complaints of the non-availability of workers for agricultural activities,” he said.
Shivamogga Lok Sabha member B.Y. Raghavendra alleged that the Congress party, during its rule, named more than 450 government schemes after Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, and Rajiv Gandhi. They hardly remembered Mahatma Gandhi. “Now the party is engaged in misleading the public about the VB-G RAM G Act by issuing false advertisements in newspapers. BJP leaders have to spend time to educate people about the benefits of the new act”, he stated.
District BJP president N.K. Jagadish, MLA S.N. Channabasappa, former minister Araga Jnanendra and others were present.
