Process on to identify land for trade centre in Erode district: Minister Muthusamy

Efforts underway to establish a trade centre in Erode district, as Minister inaugurates FATIA Fair 2025.

Minister for Housing and Prohibition and Excise S. Muthusamy has said that efforts are under way to identify land for establishing a trade centre in the district.

In the presence of MLA V.C. Chandhirakumar, the Minister inaugurated FATIA Fair 2025, an exhibition organised by the Federation of All Trade and Industry Associations of Erode District, at Parimalam Mahal on Friday. He also released the fair souvenir and visited all the 210 stalls at the event.

Addressing mediapersons, Mr. Muthusamy said there has been a longstanding demand from the federation to establish a trade centre in the district, similar to the CODISSIA Trade Fair Complex in Coimbatore. He added that the government is currently looking for suitable land. “Our vision is to create a centre that will cater to the district’s needs for the next 30 to 40 years,” he said.

The Minister assured that once land is identified, the centre would be established in collaboration with the federation, which is an apex body representing 75 associations in the district.

When asked about the delay in establishing the Neo-Tidel Park, announced two years ago, the Minister cited challenges in identifying a single contiguous plot of land. “We are in the process of finding suitable land and expect to finalise it soon,” he said.

Mr. Muthusamy also said that the Corporation’s satellite bus stand at Solar, being constructed on 20 acres, will be inaugurated within the next three months. Additionally, steps are being taken to construct another satellite bus stand on 13 acres near Kaniravuthar Kulam. He added that following Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s announcement last month, work on the Thozhiyar Viduthi (hostel for working women) in the district will commence soon.

The industrial and trade fair, which runs until May 5, is being held for the sixth consecutive year. Special prizes are being awarded to stalls showcasing new technologies and innovative ideas.
