Pollachi sexual assault case: Coimbatore Mahila Court to deliver verdict on May 13
The Mahila Court in Coimbatore will deliver the judgment in the 2019 Pollachi sexual assault case on May 13, 2025.
Though justice R. Nandhinidevi, who handled the trial from the beginning, was transferred to Karur, according to a recent order, she will deliver the judgment in the case, said court sources.
The case pertains to alleged sexual assault on several women by nine persons, who were also accused of recording the acts without their consent and using the videos to extort sexual favours and money.
N. Rishwanth alias Sabarirajan, K. Thirunavukkarasu, N. Sathish, T. Vasanthakumar, R. Manivannan alias Mani, K. Arulanantham, P. Babu alias ‘Bike’ Babu, Haronimus Paul, and M. Arunkumar are the nine accused.
The case was registered by the local police based on a complaint lodged by a 19-year-old college student in February 2019. The Investigation was later transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which probed and submitted the chargesheet against the accused. At least five women have reportedly given complaints against the accused.
The trial was conducted adhering to directions of the Madras High Court, taking various measures to protect the privacy of the survivors. The court examined over 40 witnesses in the case.
