Plea to re-lay damaged roads, repair broken underground drainage system manholes
Seeking the re-laying of badly damaged roads and steps to repair the damaged underground drainage system manholes through which sewage is flowing, a petition was submitted to Mayor G. Ramakrishnan on Tuesday.
In his petition submitted to the Mayor, G. Mariappan of ward 30 near Tirunelveli Junction said the roads in Perumal North Car Street, Perumal East Car Street, Motilal Street, Chittaranjan Street and Kannamman Temple Street were in the worst shape as the roads were not laid for the past several years.
As the sewage overflowing from a few damaged manholes of the underground drainage system on these streets was stagnating on the badly damaged roads and flowing into a few houses, the residents are suffering a lot.
Hence, the Corporation should take steps for repairing the damaged manholes and re-lay the damaged roads considering the healthy living of the residents, the petitioner said.
A group of residents from Kakkan Nagar under ward 5 submitted a petition complaining about erratic distribution of drinking water. Since there was no drinking water supply to the residents over the past ten days, the petitioners urged the Corporation officials to ensure regular supply of drinking water.

The draft policy for “Responsible Digital Use Among Students”, released on Monday by the Department of Health and Family Welfare, has recommended that parents set structured routines with clear screen-time rules and prioritise privacy, safety, and open conversation with children on digital well-being.
