Odisha’s GST collection up by 49%

It’s the highest growth rate of 26% amongst all the major States, says GST Commissioner
The Odisha Government has reported a jump by 49% in the State’s gross Goods and Services Tax (GST) collection from ₹29,852.76 crore in 2020-21 to ₹44,334.67 crore in 2021-22.
“Continuing with the high growth trend in GST collection, the Odisha’s gross GST collection during March 2022 has been recorded at ₹4,124.66 crore, as against ₹3,285.29 crore during March 2021, registering a growth of 26% — the highest growth rate amongst all the major States in the country,” Sushil Lohani, Odisha Commissioner of Commercial Taxes and GST, said.
“The collection of Odisha GST (OGST) during the month of March 2022 was ₹1,351.25 crore against ₹954.62 crore during March 2021, with a growth rate of 42%. The collection of ₹1,351.25 crore during March 2022 is also the highest ever collection of OGST by the State in a month, since the inception of GST,” Mr. Lohani stated.
“The OGST collection for the financial year 2021-22 is ₹12,743.01 crore, as against ₹8,292.15 crore collected till March 2021, recording a growth rate of 54%,” he said.
According to the State government, the growth in GST was mostly driven by the mining and manufacturing sectors.
“The mining sector recorded a growth of 81%, and the manufacturing sector recorded 84% growth during this year. Similarly, the service sector, and the trading and works contract sectors, witnessed growth of 56.78%, 52.07% and 36.99%, respectively, in the current fiscal, over the corresponding period of last year,” the government said.
The total collection of VAT (value added tax) on petrol and liquor jumped by 8.22% from ₹1,559.51 crore during March 2021 to ₹1,687.72 crore during March 2022. Collection from petroleum products was ₹1,257.04 crore while collection from liquor was ₹430.67 crore during March 2022.
ACS Ignite, a start-up event aimed at empowering deep science start-ups to raise funding and mentorship was organised by the Student Chapter of the American Chemical Society (ACS) in collaboration with ACS and Fortytwo at Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR) on Thursday. Over twenty start-ups got a platform to pitch their ideas to Venture Capitalists, who would go on to provide access to networks and funds.
Centre for Cellular and Molecular Platforms (C-CAMP) has been chosen, along with IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Kanpur, IIT Hyderabad, and IISc. Bengaluru, to establish centres of excellence (CoE) by the Wadhwani Foundation in Bioengineering and Biotechnology with a funding support of $1 million annually.
