Mysuru temple to distribute two lakh laddus on January 1 to mark New Year

Yoga Narasimhaswamy temple in Mysuru to distribute two lakh laddu on New Year's Day 2025, continuing 30-year tradition.
In continuation with its 30-year-old practice, the Yoga Narasimhaswamy temple at Vijayanagar 1st stage in Mysuru will distribute two lakh laddu to devotees on January 1, 2025, to mark New Year.
What began as a small initiative in 1994 with the distribution of 1,000 laddus increased to over 1,00,000 laddus over the decades. But since the last few years, the temple authorities are distributing two lakh laddus.
Bhashyam Swami of the temple trust under whose supervision the daily rituals take place told media persons on Saturday that preparations for the making of laddus got underway on December 20 and will go on till December 31, he added.
In all, 100 confectioners and those specialising in making sweets have been engaged for the purpose and they are working round the clock to meet the target of making two lakh laddu by December 31. The manufacturing is taking place under hygienic conditions and the ingredients have been procured for the purpose, said Bhashyam Swami.
N. Sreenivasan, administrative officer of the temple trust said the ingredients required to make two lakh laddus include 100 quintals of gram flour, 200 quintals of sugar, 10,000 litres of edible oil, 500 kg of cashew nuts, 500 kg of raisin or dry grapes, 250 kg of badam, 1,000 kg of diamond sugar, 2,000 kg of boora sugar, 50 kg of pista, 200 kg of clove, 50 kg of cardamom among others.
On January 1, 2025, the temple rituals will commence at 4 a.m. and there will be special decorations with flowers and other ingredients procured from Srirangam and Madurai in Tamil Nadu. There will be ‘Sahasranama archane’. After the completion of the rituals public will be allowed in for darshan and the distribution of the laddu will also take place simultaneously and go on till midnight.
Bhashyam Swami said the temple has taken this as a seva or service since 30 years and conducts special prayers for peace of the world to mark the beginning of the new year.
