Mumbai Police bans firecrackers and rockets from May 11 to June 9, 2025, under Maharashtra Police Act.
The Mumbai Police have imposed a temporary ban on the use of firecrackers and the launching of rockets, effective from May 11 to June 9, 2025. The directive, issued by Akbar Pathan, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), Brihan Mumbai, prohibits individuals from lighting or throwing any form of firecrackers or fireworks, including rockets or chidi (sky lanterns), within city limits.
The order has been issued under the relevant sections of the Maharashtra Police Act, 1951. The directive covers all public and private spaces across Brihan Mumbai and will be enforced for the full 30-day period, including both start and end dates.
The ban comes on the background of heightened security measures across Maharashtra. On May 12, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis chaired a high-level meeting with senior officials from the Army, Navy, Air Force, and state agencies to review coordination, intelligence sharing, and cybersecurity. Earlier, on May 9, he instructed police, administrative, and coastal bodies to stay on high alert, conduct district-level mock drills, set up war rooms, and coordinate with hospitals during blackouts.
