Volunteers from Civil Defence Force, NCC cadets, NSS students from colleges, police personnel, fire brigade and civil officials participated in a mock drill held near the Puducherry Airport on Wednesday as part of nation-wide preparations to deal with any eventuality amid heightened tensions with Pakistan.
The mock drill was held to prepare volunteers and civil administration for self-protection, moving people to safer places, rescue, providing first aid and handling emergencies in case of a war-like situation. Several agencies, including the district administration and Air Force coordinated the mock drill held near Puducherry Airport. District Collector A. Kulothungan, Senior Superintendent of Police, Law and Order Kalaivanan and Senior Superintendent of Police, Traffic, Praveen Kumar Tripathi were present.
