Tension prevailed in Pangul Galli in Belagavi, Karnataka at night on March 19 after a mentally deranged man was caught throwing a stone at a temple. It hit the temple gate before ricocheting.
A group of shop-keepers and onlookers caught him and tied him to a pole. Someone called the police who took Yasir Yusuf, 19, into custody. A case was registered.
Police Commissioner Iada Martin Marbaniang said the initial investigation revealed that the youth is undergoing psychiatric treatment. “He told investigators that the reason why he committed the offence was because he wanted revenge for someone wearing a dress similar to a burqa during Holi,” the Commissioner said.
The situation is peaceful now. A police van was stationed in the area.
