Lok Sabha plunges into chaos again as BJP MP reiterates Soros-Congress ‘link’

Lok Sabha chaos as BJP MP accuses Congress of Soros link, leading to adjournment and demands for JPC probe.
Friday’s Lok Sabha proceedings were washed out as BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, for the second time in as many days, accused the Congress of being in league with U.S.-based billionaire investor George Soros to derail India’s success story under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Congress, in turn, asked the government if it really wanted the House to function, as it allowed Mr. Dubey to speak even after the Opposition members met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Thursday, seeking an apology from the BJP MP.
Speaking to The Hindu, Congress general secretary (organisation) K.C. Venugopal said, ”In a parliamentary democracy, the government has its way but the Opposition has its say. It’s quite unfortunate that the Speaker isn’t willing to even listen to our views.”
On Thursday (December 5, 2024), the BJP MP tried to link Mr. Soros with Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi. Quoting a report in a French media outlet, Mr. Dubey had said Mr. Soros funded the investigative media platform, Organised Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP), and these OCCRP reports were often used by the Congress-led Opposition to derail parliamentary proceedings.
On Friday (December 6, 2024), during the Zero Hour, Mr. Dubey was allowed by BJP MP Dilip Saikia, who was presiding over the proceedings at noon, to raise the issue again to complete the “unfinished” parts of his speech.
As Mr. Dubey said, “Congress ka haath Soros ke saath [Congress’ hand is with Mr. Soros],” the Lok Sabha plunged into chaos, with the Congress members trooping into the Well of the House. In support of the Congress, Samajwadi Party (SP) member Dharmendra Yadav and Trinamool Congress MP Saugata Roy were also up on their feet. The House was then adjourned for the day.
When the Lok Sabha met at 11 a.m., the proceedings lasted for less than a minute as Congress’ Deputy Leader Gaurav Gogoi and Mr. Venugopal tried raising the issue of “objectionable remarks” made by BJP leaders against Mr. Gandhi.
