Voters have responded to Chief Minister Stalin’s appeal, says the Minister
DMK’s landslide victory in the urban local bodies polls is a clean chit to the government in the State, said Minister for Industries Thangam Thennarasu.
DMK has won the maiden election to Sivakasi Corporation and conquered all the five municipalities and nine town panchayats in Virudhunagar district.
“Voters have reposed faith in the DMK and responded to the call of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin seeking to extend the nine months of good governance in the State to the local bodies also,” Mr. Thennarasu, who is also the party’s Virudhunagar west district secretary, told The Hindu
This for the first time, the DMK has emerged victorious in Virudhunagar municipality and Kariyapatti town panchayat also.
The Chief Minister has been telling that his governance was for all, including those who had not voted for the DMK alliance in the Assembly election.
“The landslide victory in the urban local bodies polls could not have happened without the votes of people who had not earlier voted for us. This shows the confidence the people of the State have on the DMK’s governance,” he said.
With the clock ticking down to the Lok Sabha election counting day on Tuesday, opposing fronts are perceptibly edgy and poised to continue the rancorous skirmishing that marked the campaign season in Kerala. The United Democratic Front, led by the Congress, is seemingly basking in the “interim victory” granted by various exit polls. The UDF discerns that its poll strategy of turning the polls foremostly into a damning referendum on the Left Democratic Front government’s perceived failures rather than BJP’s “divisive politics” at the national level stood a fighting chance of paying off.
