Kanniyakumari SP inaugurates convict ward at KKGMCH for secure medical treatment of prison inmates, emphasizes rural policing initiative.
Kanniyakumari Superintendent of Police R. Stalin inaugurated the Convict Ward at the Kanniyakumari Government Medical College Hospital (KKGMCH) in Asaripallam on Monday. The ward has been established at the hospital to provide treatment for prison inmates.
The ward is equipped with 9 beds, surveillance cameras, and individual rooms for nurses and police personnel deployed to guard the inmates admitted to the ward.
Speaking at the event Mr. Stalin said that the establishment of the convict ward has been a long standing request from the district’s police officials. He added that the ward was created to ensure secure and proper medical treatment for inmates.
At the event he further emphasised the benefits of rural policing and surveillance initiative which has been implemented in the district to reduce the crime and bridge the gap between police and the public.
The initiative involves deploying police personnel to each village under their respective police station limits along with installation of surveillance cameras. The effort is aimed at reducing the crime rate and improving public access to police. He also stressed the stringent actions being taken against drug trafficking, heavy loaded mineral trucks and transportation of minerals beyond permitted time limits .
V. Ramalakshmi, Dean of KKGMCH, V. Lalilth Kumar, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Nagercoil, and other medical staff and officials were present at the event.
