State Highways Department seeks bids to complete ROB in Coimbatore with ramps, facing delays due to legal issues.
The State Highways Department has called for bids to complete the main carriageway with ramps for the road over bridge planned at Thaneerpandal across the railway track in Coimbatore city.
The 7.5 metre wide ROB for 549 metres will have 18 decks, including the one already constructed by the Railways.
The approach ramp from Avinashi Road will be for 137 metres and the one towards Thaneerpandal will be for 68 metres.
“The bids will be opened next month. The railways has constructed its portion of the main carriageway. The approach roads will be completed soon. Since there is a dispute only for land for the service road, it was decided to complete the main ROB across the railway line,” said an official of the Department.
The project is pending for more than 10 years and the railways completed its portion almost five years ago. The project is delayed mainly because of legal issues related to land acquisition.
Balasubramaniam, a resident of Peelamedu, said the delay in the project had hit the public badly. The public faced several risks when they crossed the railway track that did not have gates because of the project. The service roads should be also be taken up without delay, he said.
