Heavy security was deployed in front of the Vadapalani Andavar temple on Monday (December 30, 2024) after a bomb threat, which turned out to be a hoax.
A senior official of the Chennai City police said an unidentified person contacted the police control room in the early hours of Monday, claiming that a bomb had been planted at the Lord Murugan temple.
Senior police officials were alerted immediately, and St. Thomas Mount Deputy Commissioner directed Teynampet Assistant Commissioner Arogya Ravindran and Vadapalani Crime Branch Inspector Amudha to conduct searches on the temple premises.
A posse of police personnel reached the spot at 1.30 a.m. on Monday, along with a Bomb Detection Disposal Squad and a dog squad. The premises were searched, and on concluding that there was no bomb, the temple was allowed to be opened at 4 a.m.
The Vadapalani police have registered a case and are in the process of identifying the caller who made the bomb threat.
