
Hampi rape case: How can tourist spots be made safer?

An Israeli tourist and an Indian homestay operator were gang-raped by three men when they went stargazing at Sanapura lake near Hampi.
On March 6, a group of five people, three men and two women, including the owner of a homestay, went stargazing in Koppal district near the UNESCO heritage site of Hampi. What followed was a brutal case of alleged gang rape of the two women and physical assault on the three men, of which one tragically died. Our Special Correspondent Kumar Buradikatti visited the spot where the alleged incident took place. We discuss his observations, the fallout of the crime on the locals and businesses, and the safety of travellers, in general.
