Ex-Yuva Morcha vice-president’s murder: BJP legislator criticises Puducherry government over law and order
A legislator belonging to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), A. John Kumar, has come out against the Puducherry government for its alleged failure in maintaining law and order in the Union Territory (UT).
Addressing a press conference in the UT on Wednesday (April 30, 2025), Mr. Kumar said the law and order situation has worsened in recent times in Puducherry. The gruesome murder of the former vice-president of BJP Yuva Morcha, Uma Shankar, has brought to light the poor handling of law and order in the UT, he alleged.
“I have already requested the government to hand over the murder case to the CB-CID for investigation. I will take the issue up with Union Home Minister Amit Shah,” he said.
Mr. Shankar, who was a supporter of Mr. Kumar, was murdered on the night of April 26 by a bike-borne gang. The police have arrested 11 persons, including the prime accused Karuna, in the case. According to the police, the murder was the result of previous enmity between the deceased and the main accused.
