Mangaluru introduces its first electric bus, enhancing public transport with eco-friendly travel and superior comfort for commuters.
The first electric bus will be operated on Mangaluru city route. It was unveiled by Charge Mobility, Ganesh Prasad Travels, and Neuton Auto here on Thursday.
Ganesh Prasad Travels will deploy the bus on Route No. 27, between Mangaladevi Temple and State Bank.
Speaking to The Hindu, Dilraj Alva, the proprietor of Ganesh Prasad Travels, said that with the new addition, the total number of buses the firm operates on the route went up to five.
“The bus comes with automatic transmission. Our drivers need to get accustomed to operating the vehicle. We will have around three trips per day in this fully air-conditioned bus,” he said.
Mr. Alva said charging would be done at charging stations in fuel pumps in the city. With a full fast or slow charge, for two or five hours respectively, the electric bus could clock about 200 km. The daily operation of each of the buses was about 175 km, Mr. Alva said.
