A fire broke out at a matchbox factory at SIDCO Industrial Area at Thittankulam near Kovilpatti in Thoothukudi district on Friday. Material worth several lakhs of rupees were reportedly damaged in the fire.
Police said around 12 workers were engaged in production when they noticed smoke inside the factory. Sensing danger, they immediately ran out of the premises. However, one worker A. Munisamy from Ettayapuram, sustained burns.
Upon receiving the information, Kovilpatti Fire and Rescue Services Personnel rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire.
Kovilpatti tahsildar Saravanaperumal and Deputy Superintendent of Police Jeganathan visited the site. A case has been registered by Kovilpatti East Police.
