The Telugu Desam Party MLA Kuna Ravikumar emphasised the importance of environmental conservation and urged every citizen to plant at least one sapling in the rainy season to enhance the green cover in Srikakulam district.
Speaking as the chief guest for the foundation day celebrations of Action in Rural Technology and Services (ARTS-NGO) at Peddapeta in Burja mandal of Srikakulam, the MLA praised the ARTS founder, Nuka Sanyasi Rao, for spearheading the plantation drive in a big way in tribal and other areas. He expressed concern over the significant reduction in green cover in the Srikakula district, which was once fondly known as the “Poor Man’s Ooty.” He asked people to adopt an environmentally friendly lifestyle and combat the growing menace of plastic.
The event featured a blood donation camp, which was attended by NABARD District Development Manager T. Nagarjuna and Indian Red Cross Society Chairman P. Jaganmohana Rao. An exhibition showcasing jute and tribal products was held in the ARTS premises. ARTS Director N. Sanyasi Rao thanked Krishi Vignana Kendram scientists who promised to conduct training programmes for tribal farmers to boost their income by focusing on by-products of pineapple and other forest-available produce. Members of various farmers’ producers’ organisations attended the event.
