Udupi Shiroor Mutt seer Vedavardhana Tirtha Swami performed the bale (banana plant) muhoorta on Friday at the mutt’s 1.5 acre orchard to raise a banana plantation for supplying plantain leaf for his forthcoming Paryaya from January 2026 in Udupi.
Speaking after performing the muhoorta at 7 am, the seer said the mutt would accord prominence for Annadaana during the Paryaya from January 18, 2026, for which Udupi Sri Krishna Mutt has been famous. “Every devotee having darshan of Sri Krishna would be served with the same kind of prasadam,” the seer said. Besides regular puja and discourses at the above of Sri Krishna, Chaturveda Paarayana and Veda teachings would also be done every day, he said.
In his introductory address, mutt diwan Uday Saralathaya said Annadaana at Lord Krishna’s above was given equal importance to that of puja performed to the deity as advocated by Sri Madhwacharya and Bhavisameera Sri Vadiraja Tirtha. It signifies the importance to be given to devotees in whom Lord Krishna was seen. Raising banana plantation was in aid of Annadaana so as to serve food to devotees after offering the Naivedya to the Lord, Mr. Saralathaya explained. The Shiroor Mutt intends to raise the plantation on its orchard in the hands of devotees and use the leaves during the Paryaya, he added.
Sri Vedavardhana also planted sugarcane shoots and a Tulasi plant. Vidwan Giriraja Upadhyaya Kamblakatta performed the rituals in the presence of mutt administrator Shreesha Bhat Kadekar and others.
Earlier in the day, puja was performed to the presiding deity of Shiroor Mutt, Sri Vittala Devaru, at the mutt in Car Street. Later, the seer visited Sri Ananteshwara, Sri Chandramouleshwara, and Sri Krishna Temples before proceeding to the orchard near Poorna Prajna College with banana plant shoots.
