A 52-year-old mechanical engineer was stabbed to death and his assistant was injured after being attacked by a daily wage worker with a knife in a row over theft of a mobile phone in Rajajinagar Industrial Area in Bengaluru on May 6 evening.
Abdul Malik died on the spot while his assistant Jainul sustained multiple injuries and was admitted to a hospital.
A few hours after the incident, Magadi Road police arrested the accused, Manoj, and charged him with murder and attempt to murder.
Neighbours, who heard the commotion, rushed to help and shifted the duo to a hospital.
Jainul told them that Manoj, who works as a porter in a neighbouring firm, had come to their work place and allegedly stole a mobile phone.
On checking CCTV camera footage, the duo saw Manoj picking up the phone and walking away.
Later, when Manoj visited their work place, the duo confronted him and demanded return of the mobile phone.
