DMK cadres on a campaign mode
DMK cadres in Dindigul district have hurled off the starting block even before election dates have been announced. Right from Pongal, the cadres are on a promotional spree with hot boxes being distributed to various households for the festivities.
Now, with the temperature slowly rising, figuratively and literally, at Oddanchatram the cadres have started distributing parasols for vendors. In a few weeks time, roads in the municipality that are chock-a-block with vendors will be shaded with parasols painted in DMK colours. These high-visibility umbrellas are walking billboards for the party and bear pictures of M. K. Stalin, Udhayanidhi Stalin, R. Sakkarapani and I. Periyasamy. Of practical utility, it will protect the vendors from the blazing sun and cadres feel that it is an easy promotional tool that also has practical use.
Satya, who has a fruit shop near the Oddanchatram bus stand, has displayed her wares under the parasol’s shade. “I won’t say that I am using it because of party affiliations. They have given me something which will help me during the summer months so without a thought I am using it.”
“Elections are being held during summer, so giving umbrellas, with DMK branding makes it more meaningful and as it is also functional,” says one of the DMK cadre who is busy listing out areas where these have to be distributed. Within a few days, these parasols will be removed when the election code of conduct comes into force but for these cadres they are excited to have painted the town red and black at least for a few days.

The draft policy for “Responsible Digital Use Among Students”, released on Monday by the Department of Health and Family Welfare, has recommended that parents set structured routines with clear screen-time rules and prioritise privacy, safety, and open conversation with children on digital well-being.
