‘Colachel Victory Warrior Statue’ unveiled at Pangode

Gov. Khan unveiled the 'Colachel Victory Warrior Statue' at Pangode Military Station, commemorating the unsung heroes of the Colachal War. It was the first time an Asian power had defeated Europeans. A Kalaripayattu display by the Madras Regiment and students marked the occasion. Gov. Khan praised the station for remembering those who fought for their motherland.
Governor Arif Mohammed Khan unveiled the ‘Colachel Victory Warrior Statue’ at the Colachel War Memorial at Pangode Military Station on Sunday.
Station Commander Brigadier Lalit Sharma and other officers were present. The Travancore forces had defeated the forces of the Dutch East India Company led by Eustachius de Lannoy in 1741 at Colachal, in present-day Tamil Nadu.
It was the first time that an Asian power had successfully defeated the Europeans. A ‘Victory Pillar’ was later erected at the spot of the battle commemorating this victorious feat, a defence spokesperson said.
The Governor complimented the Pangode Military Station for erecting the statue, commemorating the unsung heroes of the Colachal War and remembering the people who fought for their motherland. The occasion was also marked by a Kalaripayattu display by the Madras Regiment and students from martial art schools.
The Madras High Court on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, rejected a plea by former special Director General of Police (DGP) Rajesh Das to restore the electricity service connection to a bungalow in Thaiyur near Kelambakkam in Chengalpattu district, and to restrain Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco) officials from disturbing the power supply in future.
The Madras High Court on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, permitted Anna University to deposit, in three monthly instalments, an amount of ₹73.23 lakh before the Central Government Industrial Tribunal (CGIT) as a condition to hear a statutory appeal preferred by the varsity against the Coimbatore Regional Provident Fund (RPF) Commissioner’s order to pay dues to the tune of ₹2.44 crore to contract employees.
