Traffic diversions and regulations announced for M.K. Stalin's roadshow in Madurai, causing potential delays and congestion on city roads.
With the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president and Chief Minister M.K. Stalin taking up a roadshow for around 17 km on the arterial roads of the city on Saturday evening, smooth flow of traffic could be hindered on many roads leading towards or cutting through the route of roadshow.
The police have announced traffic diversions on several junctions and regulations of traffic on various stretches of roads in the city.
“Saturday evenings always witness heavy flow of traffic on the city roads as people come out for shopping and eating with family members. With the schools all set to reopen after the summer vacation on June 2, people would tend to go for shopping of stationary goods, bags, and shoes on Saturday evening,” a police officer attached to Madurai City Traffic Police said.
Though all efforts have been taken to minimise inconvenience to the people, he advises people not to take up avoidable travel closer to the road showroute, especially in the evening hours.
The roadshow which would begin from Ambedkar Statue at Perungudi would wind through the arterial roads in Avaniyapuram, Villapuram Arch, Jaihindpuram Main Road, Jeeva Nagar junction, Sundararajapuram market, Madakulam junction, Palanganatham junction, Dindigul Bypass Road, Kalavasal junction, Guru Theatre junction, Dindigul Road, A.A. Road, Arasaradi junction, New Jail Road.
“The roadshow which is likely to begin around 5 p.m. could go till 7.30 p.m. Though we have planned to close and open traffic at different points at different timings, road users will face inconvenience as traffic flow would be affected then and there,” the police officer said.
With over 20,000 DMK cadre likely to come to the city in over 500 buses and 400 vans from outside Madurai, vehicular movement on various other stretches of roads would also see a cascading effect of traffic snarl and congestion right from afternoon.
