Burglars steal gold, silver, and cash from hotelier's home in Mettukulam village near Katpadi; police investigate.
Burglars decamped with 50 sovereigns of gold jewellery, silver objects and ₹2 lakh in cash from the house of a hotelier at Mettukulam village near Katpadi here on Saturday.
According to the police, S. Raja, 62, who runs a restaurant, and his family had gone to Chennai for wedding shopping. When they returned, they found the house broken into.
Valuables, including cash, gold and silver jewellery were missing. The CCTV cameras fixed on the veranda were found damaged and their hard disks removed.
On an alert from Raja, Katpadi police went to the spot. Fingerprints were taken and the footage of CCTV cameras along the route were scrutinised. Special teams have been formed to nab the culprits.

The draft policy for “Responsible Digital Use Among Students”, released on Monday by the Department of Health and Family Welfare, has recommended that parents set structured routines with clear screen-time rules and prioritise privacy, safety, and open conversation with children on digital well-being.
